THE BACKSTORY
"I’m Charbel, a passionate and multi-talented filmmaker with extensive technical, creative, and conceptual expertise across various disciplines in the film and media industries.
My filmmaking journey began when I was just 11 years old. I would spend up to 13 hours a day immersed in the silver screen and television (to my dad’s dismay), binge-watching everything from Manga to timeless classics. I borrowed camcorders whenever I could, rallying my childhood friends to recreate the films I loved. Together, we made over 30 short films, complete with special effects and live sound. It was the joy of my life and cemented my dream of becoming a “hardcore” filmmaker.
In 1997, I took my passion to the next level by enrolling in the Filmmaking program at HSUK-USEK University in Beirut. I graduated with distinction in 2002, earning my Master’s in Filmmaking. From there, I began directing, filming, and editing narrative films, trailers, and TV shows, while honing my skills in Beirut’s vibrant film community.
In 2008, I added Color Grading to my skill set and transitioned to Dubai, where I worked as a post-production supervisor, chief editor, and colorist at Montage TV Production. My focus shifted to TV commercials, collaborating with top ad agencies and global brands like ImpactBBDO, Leo Burnett, JWT, Audi, Nissan, P&G, Samsung, and many more.
Throughout my 22-year career, I’ve been honored with several awards, including Best Picture and Art Direction at the DQFF film festival in Lebanon (2004), a Cannes Lions Bronze (2017), and a Grand Prix at Dubai Lynx (2017). These achievements reflect my dedication to the craft and my drive to push creative boundaries.
Today, I’m as enthusiastic as ever about filmmaking. I’m always exploring the latest technologies in cameras, lenses, and software, and I’ve even created my own visual effects plugin to enhance my projects.
This is my story—now I’d love to hear yours. Let’s connect and create something extraordinary."
